SPRING
No matter how long the winter, spring is sure to follow! ~Proverb We've compiled a list of items we would like you to consider checking before you head out for your first spring trip: Wheels Check the bearings, brakes and tire pressure as well as tread and cracks in the tires that can be caused by harsh seasonal weather. This should be done at least annually. We offer a bearing pack service and will inspect your brakes while changing the seals. Alarms Test the operation of the carbon monoxide alarm, LP leak detector and smoke alarm. This would also be a good time to install new batteries. If you are concerned about an LP leak we are equipped to run an LP check on your RV at our shop. Appliances Do a test run on ALL appliances before your first trip both for LP and 120v. This would include the refrigerator, stove, oven, furnace, water pump, water heater, and air conditioner. A vacation is not started well when you arrive at your destination with spoiled food because the refrigerator was not working properly. Batteries Check the water levels, clean the terminals and clamps and check the charge level of all batteries. Recharge them as necessary. If you should need new batteries, we sell Interstate Batteries.
Water The most common issue with RV's is leaks. Make sure to run your entire water system before leaving on your maiden voyage. Open compartment doors, check ceilings, under sinks, around toilets and showers and around windows for any possible water damage or leaks. Even a properly winterized RV is not safe from rodents that may have gotten in over the winter to nibble on the water lines. It's also a good time to inspect fresh water and sewer hoses for replacement.
Exterior Wash your RV. This will allow you to see any spots on the roof that may need to be resealed or tears in the awnings that need to be mended (as well as checking the operation of the awning). Also check your window seals and the body of the RV for any cracks that would allow water to get in.
Generator If you did not service the generator before putting it into storage, now is the time to do it. It is a good idea to start and run your generator for two hours with at least a half load on it. Make sure the exhaust system is clear of any damage prior to starting it. We are an Onan/Generac dealer and are trained and ready to service your generator for you.
Other Check the operation of the steps, hydraulic jacks, slide outs, and interior and exterior lights.
